"Lay Hold"

In Sunday school we were discussing “Lay hold” and what it meant. Great job Mark (gospel doctrine teacher). I looked up several scriptures and gave it some thought. The words “lay hold” imply action, making a decision, and being proactive. Lay Hold also appears to be a commandment. It would appear that our actions to lay hold, are determined by how important we view the object we are going to lay hold of. In the yard we may lay hold of a rock to clear the soil. In our car we lay hold of the groceries and carry them into the house. We sometimes lay hold of a child to cross the street. How would you lay hold of a treasure map or a treasure chest? We lay hold of items or things casually and can put it off till later because it just isn’t important. However, if we view the object as very important or maybe even urgent, we lay hold not only quicker but firmer. If the treasure chest is "Eternal Life" and the map is the "Word of God" how would you lay hold of them? I have included some scriptures that I thought were relevant. Please read and let me know what you think. Food for thought!!!! Moroni 7:19-21, 25 19 Wherefore, I beseech of you, brethren, that ye should search diligently in the light of Christ that ye may know good from evil; and if ye will lay hold upon every good thing, and condemn it not, ye certainly will be a child of Christ. 20 And now, my brethren, how is it possible that ye can lay hold upon every good thing? 21 And now I come to that faith, of which I said I would speak; and I will tell you the way whereby ye may lay hold on every good thing. 25 Wherefore, by the ministering of angels, and by every word which proceeded forth out of the mouth of God, men began to exercise faith in Christ; and thus by faith, they did lay hold upon every good thing; and thus it was until the coming of Christ 1Ttimothy 6:12 12 Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses. Proverbs 3:18 18 She ( talking about wisdom) is a tree of life to them that lay hold upon her: and happy is every one that retaineth her. Hel 3:29 29 Yea, we see that whosoever will may lay hold upon the word of God, which is quick and powerful, which shall divide asunder all the cunning and the snares and the wiles of the devil, and lead the man of Christ in a strait and narrow course across that everlasting gulf of misery which is prepared to engulf the wicked— Mormon 7:8 8 Therefore repent, and be baptized in the name of Jesus, and lay hold upon the gospel of Christ, which shall be set before you, not only in this record but also in the record which shall come unto the Gentiles from the Jews, which record shall come from the Gentiles unto you. Moroni 10:30 30 And again I would exhort you that ye would come unto Christ, and lay hold upon every good gift, and touch not the evil gift, nor the unclean thing.

Sad I wasn't there. Way to do your research/scripture study!
